Just replace the axle with a reman. piece. Should only take about 1hr to replace - faster if you have done it before.

man when i changed my cv boot, it took me like 3 hours cause first i changed the outer ones, then i realized u change the inner ones when u change the outer ones because they come off the outer side. so i had to take off the boot again and pull hte innner ones out and change them and put hte outer ones back on. i used like so much of those clips that day. like he said, do it yourself or youll never learn, i found it by doing it

There are 2 kinds of axles for 4th gen civics, some have 23 splines, some have 26. Don't quote me on this, but I think the civics with the 4 spd manual trans had the 23 spline ones. But you need to mark one on the old axle (as a starting point), and count how many are there, and you need to count how many are there are the new axle.

If they are the same, and you are just having trouble getting it to snap in, start the one end in the trans, and the other end in the wheel assembly, and use the wheel part like a slidehammer to pop it in place. MAKE SURE you have the splines all lined up before you do this! If everything is lined up, doing that doesn't hurt anything, and could save you alot of effort.

Hope something there helped.

well thanx for the tip but i changed my trannie myself so i know i have the right spindle # and even double checked before i came back. i do appretiate the help though but now i have a new problem i can't get it into the hub or wheel assembly i think they would be the same thing. it's really pissing me off any ideas.

The transmission side (inner splines) of all the axles were the same. However the hub side (outer splines) of the HF and STD was 23, while all others were 26.

To get the axle into the tranny you have to get it past the snap ring. To do this all you need is one strong blow to the axle. What I did is make sure the axle is as straight as it can be, than with a the top of a rubber mallet in the palm of my hand just punch the back of the axle and the force is enough to seat the axle in. Than for the hub side just pull on what you have to to get the clearance and than maybe turn the hub by the wheel stud to line up the splines.

thanx for the advice i read your 'how to' to get it into my trannie but i just found out that the people i had put in my dx trannie gave me a half 26 spindle half 23 spindle axel instead of changing my hub. that really pisses me off but they did tell me they didn't change the hub and i did ask them to do it in the cheepest way possible, now. is it possible to get a 23-26 spindle axel or do i just have to change my hub tomorrow morning b4 work. they found someone to cover for me from another store but i want to get in there as soon as possible... any advice?

How can you have a half 23 and half 26 spine axle? The Inner splines are all the same for all the Honda axles. The outsides were either 23 for the HF or STD or 26 for the rest of them. Count the number of splines your hub has. Use axles with that number of outer splines.

hey i have to change my cv boot too it ripped, but anyway im not understanding what u mean why would u have to change the inner ones if they are the ones on the inside, it would seem the outter one would come off first, i have no experience with axels so thats why i sound like a dumb ass, so maybe the boot comes off from the more inside part of the axel, i dont know, did u mean u had to buy an inner boot as well or just had to take it off, also what clips are you talking about????
