Thumbs down Stupidity from the state of Wisconsin!

Another reason that Milwaukee is for stupid people OR Why it's illegal for two 14 year olds to have sex with eachother.
http://www.jsonline.com/news/metro/aug03/163688.asp

This was my laugh for today.

Quote:
The boy is being held in secure detention on a charge of attempted second-degree sexual assault, a felony that carries a possible juvenile prison term.

The girl pleaded guilty to fourth degree sexual assault, a misdemeanor, but is charged with violating her probation; a warrant has been issued for her arrest.
Note to feminists who claim this world is built in favor of men, read the above. A double standard yes, but it's not in the way that'd be helpful in proving this is a "male orientated" world.

And here's the part that had me rolling on the floor from laughter...
Quote:
But prosecutors say children have no right to have sex.

"Sex between kids is not legal," said Assistant District Attorney Lori Kornblum, who is prosecuting the case.

The story is sad all the way around. Aside from the bizzare standards the law uses, I have a suspicion that those kids are headed for a lifetime of jail or waiting in line for their welfare check.

There is a lot more involved there then just two kids fooling around.

Its against the law, simple. Plus she violated her probation. What is a 14y/o doing on probation?

Did you read the entire article?

....Anyway, I always thought that these "age of consent" laws were there to protect children from having sex with older people (and I am correct that's exactly why they were made) not to keep two people of equal age from having sex (which in this case, wasn't EVEN sex, but the rather just thinking about having sex - good luck on arresting the other 99.9% of 14 year olds that day who were thinking the same things!) This shows what kind of a mess people can get into when they missinterpret a simple law.

Even more disturbing -other than that they were senteced differently for the EXACT same crime- is that they are punishing the victims.

I'm a firm believer that 14 year old kids should not have sex. They are to young and certainly not able to handle the consequences of their actions. Then end result of sex is going to be a child (it happens regardless of the amount of protection they claim to be using – if any). A set of 14 year old kids (not to mention younger and older –18) have no means to support them. The consent laws should attempt to prevent this behavior.

I just wonder what the parents are doing about all this – if anything.

I do agree that the different punishments for the same crime is bogus.
