depnends on your monetary situation ... you will be a lot more happy with the ls motor, but it will cost you more to get mounts, tranny, axles, and all the good shit you need to swap the ls motor in.

The y8 is a good little motor that will give you good gains.

If i had the money id deff go ls over the y8 though.

Where did you get the y8 motor? Was it from an online site? The only jdm engine sites that I've been to have B, H, and F-series motors; I haven't seen any D-series sites. Any info?

I've had a SOHC VTEC and I've had an LS. Guess what.. the LS was fun for burnouts and for some nice low speed power, but ultimately, I like the SOHC VTEC, which you cant beat for price, power, availability, and aftermarket support. Plus, I like revving to 7500 every day

I just had a y8 put in and I am more than happy with it.

I had the STD with the small d15 and 4 speed....so this was a massive improvement. I have a cam gear and headers so I am just about over 130hp. Also put in an Si tranny and noticed an even better gain in acceleration.

Y8 is a nice cheap way to get some good power. Plus it is easy to get parts and to upgrade it in the future for some real power.

If ya didn't know....Y8= rocks!! IMO....

d16y8 is out of the 96-00 Civic EX...is not same as 1.5 sohc vtec. i was confused to what he was talking about too

i've never had an ls...but i can say i'm happy with my y8. i wasn't looking for a performance engine but more of a faster replacement. exactly what i expected for $500
