I use plastic packaging (usually thick stuff) to make spoilers. Just get some glue, cut out your parts, glue em' up, then spray the whole thing once its dry. Check out the F60R I made (its a few posts down). The spoiler made there is just packaging with glue and gloss black paint.
You could try making custum engine parts etc. using the same technique. Also you can buy decal paper and if you have a decent printer you can just steal some graphics from the web and print em out. This paper is usually expensive so you might drop by a hobby shop and look for some premade sheets. Also I carpet the interior of a lot of my cars. Some good fabric and some simple acrylic paint (the stuff that can be put on with a paintbrush) and you can apply some nice carpet. Try asking the same question at this forum: Jada Forum These guys have alot of good ideas. |

What paint bonds best on dark colored plastic? Would you use acrylic or enamel? I recently tried acrylic-based red on a black plastic seat & it looked horrible even after 4 coats of paint.

When painting a whole part (like an entire seat) I always remove the offending piece and use spray paint. Unless the texture is very odd or the piece is thin a good coat of spray should cover you. Usually the color of the plastic doesn't matter when spraying. For little details I use acrylic paint but it is pretty easy to remove so if you plan to get your meaty paws all over your car (like I do) it may not stick. But for little details it works pretty well. I couldn't tell you about enamel since I don't use it. I'm sure someone else can help you with that in the plastic models forum.
