2002 Impala air filter

We were trying to change the air filter, and we couldnt do it, we took the 2 hooks at the top out, and got the 4 tab's at the bottom out, and tried to push it twords the engine, but we had a very hard time getting it out, and in.

Are we doing it wrong? It seems like the left side comes out easily, but we have trouble with the right side.

Re: 2002 Impala air filter

It certainly is a pain in the neck.

You may have any easier time if you disconnect the main tube thing at the air filter box AND the engine (near the butterfly valvle).

If you get this "tube" out of the way, the other should pop out easier.

Ok, thanks, we thought we were doing something wrong, because the book made it sound so easy.

I have a 2001 and you are right it is the biggest pain in the A$$ to change the air filter. I have been taking it to Wal-Mart and getting it changed there (for 1 they only charge you cost of the filter and will do an oil change for $17.00). AND they hate to see me coming.....

i had the same problem when trying to install a new filter myself. it took a lot of figeting and fussing but finally got it.
found out after the fact a really quick way to do it: there are 3 cords which when disconnected carefully, allow the tubing to be taken out un-hindered. once thats out, the casing slides out easily.

Re: 2002 Impala air filter

i purchased mine from thrasher. or you can make a home made one which works just as well for about 40 bucks. i bought mine for 220. dollars because i have a decent amount of money invested under the hood and wanted the looks.
