Unhappy '96 Coolant Leak

I have a 1996 Lumina with a 3.1 engine. It has 110,000 miles on it. The low coolant light came on about 1 month ago, filled the coolant and it ran fine. Last week the low-coolant light came on again, filled the radiator and then started to check for leaks when I stopped. No leaks from the radiator, water pump or any of the hoses but I could see drips under the car. It was leaking somewhere between the engine and the firewall and it has seemed to get worse the past couple of days . I took it to a shop to get checked and they said that it was leaking from the intake, and if it's the lower intake then it'd be about $500 in labor alone. I was considering doing this change myself. Is this something that I should even consider, or should I just bite the bullet and pay for the repairs at a shop? Anything else that could be leaking besides the intake? Any help or advice you might have would be great.

Thanks

Bite the bullet! Its real easy to mess something up unless you know what you are doing! Any mistake will take out the engine so leave it to people that do this for a living.
