Need Help With Body Kit Question

Hey guys,

I just bought a VIS TSC body kit (same as buddy club kit) for my 92-95 civic hatchback. The back fit fine, but then when I tried to install the front, the problems began. I took the factory bumper off and noticed that the plastic inside of it only extended back about 3 inches in the center. Well the body kit extends about 6 inches in the center where an intercooler would be installed. Heres the problem. Those extra 3 inches that the body kit extends are too much to fit with the metal frame bumper in the front of the car. So here are my questions. Is this a common thing? What would be the best approach to this problem? Removing the metal front bumper? (I think it may be welded and the front end would lose support ESPECIALLY in a collision of even relatively low speed). Or should I cut the bumper and reweld after i fit the kit? Or maybe cut the kit to shorten it? ANY help would be appreciated. Thanks

Just take the steal bumper out, that is what you are goin to have to do if you want the front clip on there.

Thanks for the info. Just one more thing... How does that affect safety? Is that really needed for support? Seems like if I tap someone in the front Ill have an engine in my lap

Yeah you hit it pretty much right on the nail, if you get in an accident, your fucked! The car will be totalled, and youre likely to be seriously injured.

Ya that is true if you wreck you are screwed, my frontend fit on my car perfedt so i got to keep the steal bumper on there. So its up to you whether you want to risk it or not

If it were me, I would not do it. My life is not worth a body kit, and in the case that I survived, the insurance wouldnt cover the car because the reinforcements were modified, so youd be out a shit load of money.

Ok, very very good points

So I guess before I abandon the whole project I'm gonna try trimming some of the body kit. Only about a 3" section has to come off, it can definitely be done. I was just wondering what would be the best tool to cut the fiberglass with?

What you can also try doing is cutting the corners off the reinforcement bar. It shouldnt make much of a difference safety wise, but it might just make your kit fit. Check out www.wingswest.com, under the avenger kit for the 99 civic, it tells you how to install and trim the reinforcement bar.

Just wanted to update you on what I did. I cut and modified the front kit to fit without touching the bumper guard. I just wanted to thank you guys for giving me the advice before i did something stupid. Looks great now, its all good

I hope to god you plan on painting that thing. If not, take it off and save yourself the humiliation. OEM body > unpainted kits
