There isn't really a forum for this question...
... So I'll just ask it here.
Does anyone know what's up with gas prices right now. Why are they going to high so quickly. Last week I was suprised to see $1.89/gal for regular 87, but now it's $2.05/gal! Whats going on? |

I'm paying 79 cents a litre here...that's nuts! Hell we b*tch and complain about 67 cents a litre here...
I dunno what that translates too, but in any event the cause of it according to a news report is due to the power outage that happened last week. Something to do with continued lack of power in some areas and the increased need for gasoline to make up the loss of electricity. Long story short, the government is hosing us AGAIN. Not that i'm bitter or anything, but it seems to be running in circles??

Lancaster you in Lancaster, CA?
If so, one of Arizona's pipelines was damaged a while back and so people in Phoenix are paying high prices at the moment. So us folks here in CA are sharing our gas with them. Thus is why we're paying a bit more at the pump. It doesn't help that three of our regular refineries are down for maintenance as well. Expect the prices to come back down pretty soon, I heard the Arizona pipeline has been fixed and things should return to 'normal' price gouging soon.

There is a forum for that question, although I believe that question has been asked several times there.
Moving to COMPLETELY off-topic...

Yes I live in Lancaster,CA.
The whole gas price thing kinda caught me off guard though. Monday, I was out with a friend just getting some school stuff and playing pool. We decided to go race a little. So we drove out of town and did that for about 45 minutes, after which my tank was rather low. I filled it up today (~12.5 gal) and noticed it cost a hell of a lot more then last week or two weeks ago. Kinda makes you think twice about driving WOT doesn't it. The whole power thing sucks though. I say we round up all the terrorists and convicted rapists in the world, and put them in squirrel cages attached to generators. Then we make the basters run!!! |

Pretty easy to figure out really. Supply and Demand. Demand is high, supplies are steady, prices go up. Supplies go up demand goes up, prices stabalize.
Perhaps you may have heard that we should be drilling in Alaska or off the shore in Florida? No need to increase supply here is there. (not directed at the poster of the thread) ![]()

I was in NC last summer for a bit, and the prices were about 20 cents lower than in CA. I wonder if that's changed with the power outage being on that side of the country and all.
Who here lives on the east coast? |

$1.86/1.89 for 87 octaine here in Central Wisconsin. I'll bet it will go up again just before Labor Day, than drop back down right after the holiday.
