squeaking noise

OK, here is a tricky one. There is a squeaking noise coming from the front end that varies with vehicle speed. The noise is NOT affected by braking, which makes me think it is not a brake problem. Otherwise, pushing the brakes should make it go away. The brakes on the front are new so it is not a wear indicator or anything. Im thinking the bearings need to be repacked/replaced. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Lightbulb

Might it be the sepentine belt? It would cause this if it's worn or getting some fluid on it (eg. coolant). Better question, do the sound change with engine RPM or with speed? That would narrow your search a lot.

If it's a TJ you may have the infamous "Angry Sparrow" squeak. It's caused by a dry centering ball in the cv joint in the front driveshaft.

Try this, slide under the Jeep and soak (really soak as in washing out all of the crud) the "open" end of the cv joint with silicone lube and see if the noise goes away.

If it does, this is really only a temporary fix. Ultimately you'll need to pull the front driveshaft and clean and relube the centering ball assembly.

Re: squeaking noise

What would cause a squeaking nose while the car is running but it's not the belt and the squeaking doesnt get louder or faster with faster RPM? Any suggestions?
