Tie Rod

Hi,

I just realized I have to replace the balljoint in the right side outer tie rod end.
But none of the part stores carry just the balljoint only upper and lower ones.
So I have to buy the Tie-Rod all together.
I think its about 30-40 bucks all together.
Does the outer tie-rod just unscrew from the steering?
I think your supposed to have 2 wrenches and turn then mark it so I dont forget the alignment.
Anyone every replace theirs?
THanks

Tie rod replacement is pretty simple. If you havent had an alignment recently then after replacing the tie rod is a good time - tie rods control toe. You can scribe a mark on the threads or count the # of turns.

Lift & support front end or entire vechile(recommended - less chance to roll off the stands)
Remove wheel/tire
Remove cotter pin
Loosen castle nut to the end of threads(flush)
Then beat it loose with a Ford wrench(hammer) or seperater.
Remove alxe nut completely
Un-bend lock washers
22mm wrench hold rack - 17mm remove tie rod
Reverse for install - Dont forget the cotter pin & bending the lock washer back.

The ball joint & tire rod come as one piece.

Alright thanks guys.
I just came back from Discount Auto and it costs me 48.80 for the passenger side outer tie rod.
But i guess its worth it considering my current ones balljoint is fallin apart (all the rubber is torn off).
They said i should get it "hopefully" tommorow afternoon.
Thanks
