4th gen question for all(headlight switch related)

This stumps me..I have noticed that on my friends 90 civic hatchback DX and 90-91 4 door LX....when you pull back the headlight switch(for brights) when the car is OFF(no key in ignition), they turn ON, just the brights. I was wondering why MY car doesnt do this..Mine is a 91 Si and I thought its somthing it should have. Or maybe Si's were not meant to have this option.

headlight stalk

There is something in your headlight stalk that is broken...Mine used to flash, and then one day it just stopped...it still turned the high beams off and on with the headlights on, but it didn't flash just the brights the rest of the time. I replaced my stalk with one from another car at the junkyard and solved the problem. I also had to replace my wiper stalk, because the spring that holds it up and pulls it back from the "mist" option bought the farm and it hung down and randomly fired the wipers off. - So I replaced that too...I found about 3 others in the junkyard with the same issue so I guess it is a common problem.

It takes about 10 minutes to pull them out and replace them.
1. Remove steering wheel and column trim
2. remove 3 or 4 or 5 phillips screws holding stalk in column
3. slide out stalk, remove wires.
reverse procedure to install..

I think I paid $10 for both stalks at my junkyard, so they are pretty cheap.

However, there is a difference between the 88-89 & 90-91 stalks (of course...every damn thing else is different ) - The ground wire tab is in a different spot and won't install correctly, so for true plug & play get the same year/trim if you can...I removed the ground tab from my 91 stalk, and got it in the 89 stalk to make mine fit..however, you have to disassemble the stalk itself (lotsa small parts and springs and shit flying around) so be careful not to lose anything
