celica 5sfe engine
Is it possible to put a '95 5sfe (2.2 liter) engine into a 95 celica ST with a 1.8 liter without massive modifications? If not, any idea where I can sell the 2.2? It has 56K, and comes with 5 speed trans.

it will cost a lot of money and you will gain all of 20hp. it would be MUCH cheaper to swap in a 4agze which is supercharged and has about 170hp with a very good powerband. |

5sfe in Celica ST
ok, i recently got a new project '95 Celica ST. i have a 5sfe out of my MR2 which i am now putting a Lexus V6 in. the 5sfe is fully built from the ground up, has the 3sgte head, fully built, and is ready for a Greddy T67 turbo kit. it will put out about 600-700HP. you were saying in your last reply that it would't be worth swapping the 5sfe into the ST because it wouldn't gain much HP over the current 7afe. i think in this case it would be well worth it. but i am an ex-honda/acura-head, and have now switched my hobby over to Toyota and dont know a whole lot about what can and cant be swapped, and what ECU/harnesses will fit and what mounts match and which dont....can you help me out??? with the 3sgte head, and the 5sfe block/tranny...which harness would i use? would i need much modification for the motor mounts? what other items or modifications would i need to put this engine into my Celica? please help me out...anyone!! thank you!!

your engine will be worth it, but it is no longer a 5sfe, it is a 5sgte. a hybrid engine, you took away the part that made the engine an economy engine, the head. but a stock 5sfe would not be worth it |

ok, so would i take all accessories and bolt ons (starter, alternator, sensors, etc.) from a 3sgte engine, or would i take them from a 5sfe? and then would i have to use the 3sgte harness/ECU, or the 5sfe? are they all mix and match? could i use all the parts from the 5sfe and then just plug in a 3sgte harness and ecu with some kind of piggy back or even standalone?

Quick question...where are you all getting your 3SGTE heads from? And has anyone dyno'ed this after the transfer to get a horsepower and torque rating?

Im sure its possible, the 3SGTE and the 5SFE blocks are the same size I believe just the cylinders are smaller for the 3SGTE.

it takes a lot of work and parts to do a head swap.
you will need the 3sgte head and wire harness and ecu among other parts unless your intent is to build up the 5sfe, it is almost pointless. a 3sgte can be swapped in for teh price of just the head swap alone, and if you were to build up the 5sfe, you could do the same to the 3sgte with a stroker kit, end up with the same displacement and less $$ into the project. 5sfe and 3sgte accessories are interchangeable depending on the generation of 3sgte. but you can alwasy have custom brackets made. |

Hey...been doing research on the 3SGE and the 3SGTE...yes you can add the head to the 5SFE HOWEVER it is recomended that you just swap the motors. Adding the 5SFE crank to a 3SGTE is also possible however not recomended. See when you swap the heads you end up losing low end torque (which is what makes the 5SFE a great engine). When you lose this torque you dont exactly match the loss with a gain in horsepower. Actually your better off leaving the stock head on there.

celica head swap
Can you really swap heads from a 5sfe to a 3sgte? Do you need the wiring harness from a 3sgte head? and the intake does that need to be the 3sgte? Im going crazy over here trying to figure this all out!!!!!!!!
I used to be a honda/acura fan and now I saw the light Toyota

swaping the 3sgte head on the 5sfe is ONLY not recommended when you ARENT turboing the car... the 5sfe is a 2.2L n the 3sgte is a 2.0L so it is no suprise that you will lose some but not much low end power... but making the engine .2L smaller makes the engine stronger enabling it withstand more power from the turbo.. many people have tried to turbo charge the 3sge and the 5sfe and have failed... actually i have yet to see one online without a 3sgte head swap... i have only heard of them blowing up... so it is well worth the swap if you are going to turbo the engine... I have heard of a 10 second 5sfe mr2 of course with a 3sgte head on it... of course, its ur choice
