Question 1990 Dodge Daytona 2.5 loss in power

ok i just recently bought a 1990 dodge daytona non-turbo 5speed for 400 dollars and everything seems fine for the most part EXCEPT i can barely push the gas pedel and if i floor it i hear this clicking noise comming from the rear of the car from like the exahust. This problem seems to really kick in around 3500 to 4000 rpms. It also every once and awhile dies right after i start it and i have to try a few times and give it a little gas to get it up and running. So i was wondering if anyone could let me know what the problem is and if they know a fix. please help its driving me insane to drive slower than hell.

It sounds like something could be clogging the exhaust.

My Shelby did the same thing when the catalytic converter clogged and the peices of the cat was rattling around in the exhaust getting trapped in the muffler.

Yup probably the CAT, those stock ones suck! If you can take it off and replace it with a testpipe, if not purchase a good high-flow unit.

also look at removing the cat on your car the 2.5L turbo and non turbo will pass safty inspections and u will get more torque out of the car you will fell the 20 extra pounds and u will never put the cat back on and get a dynomox muffler just make sure to get the right one u dont want any feedback

try replaceing the distributor and distributor wires, that might help the starting issue.

If you want more horespower out of it, increase the ignition timing to 15 degrees BTDC. (standard is 12 BTDC) Lot of people say you get a significant boost with this.

hey daytonashelby2.5, how much is it costing you to fix the exterior of your car? im about to send my Daytona ES to a body shop, to fix the dents and bent fenders, and repaint it ( dodge had a problem, so ive heard with paint, it always chipped off). Theres no rust on it a all.
