Just Got Hacked...

yep.

some fuckwad sent me a virus which completely took over my hotmail account, changed the password and changed the secret question so that i can't change my password. therefore, my hotmail address is now completely unobtainable and any messages, subscriptions etc are completely lost. all my stored messages, my important documents, my passwords to web-boards are FFA for that douche-fart. just to warn, if he somehow gets into my AF account and starts posting weird shit, let me know immediatley and i will change my password.

to anyone on here that may read this and has my old address on their MSN list ([email protected]), please IMMEDIATLEY delete this address from your list and add my new one, [email protected].

also, if ANYONE sends you a link to www.geocities.com/funny_pic88, DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK! this is the link that sealed my old account's fate.

i'm more then a little bit mad right now, but it's just an e-mail accoint and hopefully not too much damage will come of it. i just want you guys to be aware and be safe so this doesn't happen to you.

my AIM is safe.

where could i e-mail Microsoft about a matter like this?

from what i gathered, the person(s) responsible for this take over someone's account, and once done, send the link to everyone on their contact list. those who take the bait, he/she moves on their accounts, sends the link to everyone on THEIR lists and so on and so forth. i'm not sure how many people, if any, have been affected and i just pray that no-one on my list was as stupid as i am and clicked the link. it's sort of a good thing it happened at 3am. not that many important people were online.

Brian, are you saying you opened an attachment from somebody you didn't know or did the e-mail come from somebody known to you?

Report the link to Geocities tell them what happened - hopefully they'll track down the culprit and the authorities will be notified.

do you use a firewall or norton anti virus? If not I would look into getting those.

I don't understand Why The F you input your hotmail password into a geocities page..

Edit: Brian, hope you don't mind but I edited the evil link so it's not clickable....don't want someone else to have your problem.

This is where clicking on the link takes you:

Notice the circled area...you are NOT in hotmail or MSN anymore. You GAVE him your password. To be honest, I would NEVER do anything like this, but it doesn't take but five minutes to build something like this...less if you have a decent HTML editor.

Basically, you create something like this, and send it to random Hotmail or whatever mail addresses, and see if they bite. The fact that you were already in a Hotmail environment made you a bit complacent.

thanks boingo and carrrnut.

yeah i made a huge mistake. what happened was i had about 5 or 6 IE windows open at the time. one or 2 of them were actual Hotmail windows. opening this one, i forgot which one it was and assumed one of my Hotmail sessions had gone awry, and entered my password to get back to the e-mail i was trying to read. after inputting my password, it took me to a porn site. i was like "wtf?" and then realized what had happened. i quickly shut the window. after about 5 minutes, i was logged out of MSN with the message "you are signed in at another location". i talked to Dave (Toksin) over AIM and sure enough, my screen name and user picture (MSN 6.0) had been changed. i tried to go and reset my password, but my secret question had also been changed to gibberish.

i know it was a stupid move, but a) it was 3am. b) the hacker was using one of my friend's MSN addresses that he had already hacked. i thought it was my friend and therefore trusted the link c) i had alot of windows open and got confused.

it was an honest mistake i guess, but i'm paying the price now. i just wanted to warn all of you out there. hopefully you're smart enough to realize what's happening (unlike me). i e-mailed Hotmail with the hopes that they can change my password and grant me access to my account again. one of my friends said when he was hacked before, he simply e-mailed them asking them to change it and they did. seems kind of weird that they would listen to some random person...but we'll see if it works or not. i plan to also write an e-mail to Geocities, as NSX suggested, and see if they can do anything about it too.

Well that really sucks...I had a nasty virus about 2 years ago that reset my explorer.exe to be windows 95 instead of 98...so I had to reinstall everything.

But perhaps you guys won't have sooooo many windows open now. Just look at carrrnuttt's printed screen. Geeze.

I know what you mean about sessions being timed out...it does happen, but I just quit trying to look at 50 things at once. Of course, I don't have a high-speed connection, so it's less tempting anyway.

Geocities have shut them down- but it is still senseless- just because these geeks are too ugly to get laid- they whack off at their ability to senselssly fuck up someones computers- I think hackers should show tier skinny/obese asses so I can kick them
