tire question

this is probably a stupid question but how do can you tell the traction of a tire is it written on the side wall and if so what is a good number for a tire

hmmm. lets see if i can get this right.
usually i believe it is rated with a number in the hundreds, between say 100 and 500? now i believe that the lower the number the better the traction on dry pavement but they wear out faster (softer rubber) and the higher the number the longer they will last but they will have less traction on dry pavement (harder rubber). i don't believe it is posted on the sidewall though, it's something you will find out when looking at specs of different tires. i hope this is right and if it isn't i hope someone can correct me.

yeah he's right, although most tires do have the traction rating on the side wall, some don't.mine for instance are kumho supra's high performance rated at 280, which isn't too bad for racing, regular tires have a rating of 360+ so their going to last longer but the traction is not all that good.
