Looking for WAAG X armor
Im looking to outfit my Xwith the WAAG Brush guard, Rear Bumper guard, and taillight guards all in the nissan silver finish.
Would definately look good, as my X is silver , But i DEFINATELY want to get the best deal on them that I can.Anyone know any sites with good prices? Xterraparts.com does NOT have anywhere near the best prices on them, i know that much. Thanks. |

Well I'm sure you've read this site, so you know none of those things do anything to protect your Xterra even though they have "guard" in their names. You might try WAAG and check and see if they have a distributor list.

True, but then again, none of them, reguardless of name brand are going to protect your X when you miss the next turn in the switchback and run your truck off the road and down 500 feet into a ravine.
However, if I go with WAAG, i'll at least be a color co-ordinated black and silver mass at the bottom of the canyon. |

X-Phile,
Seriously, if you're interested in "4 Women...err....wheeling" as your profile states, don't waste your $ on the Waag crap. The same $ will go a long way toward buying REAL protection for REAL off-road use in the form of skidplates and/or rock sliders, which should be second on your list of upgrades for 'wheeling after tires if you can afford the luxury of scrapping the nearly-new stock tires early. If you're interested in joining others in MD, let me know, I founded the Greater DC Xterra Club and we'd love to have you. Brent |

Definately interested in knowing who else in my area has an X.
Definately interested in upgrading/protecting my X. Have absolutely no problem with scrapping the tires that came on the X as they are crap in the first place and I can sell them no problem. Might even be better to do so now when they only have 1k miles on them. RE: Skid Plates and Sliders.>> What name brand do you suggest. Right now I have about 2k to play with that I held back from what I was gonna DP on her. Gimme some insight on how to put it to good use. If not the WAAG bars, I was thinking a cat back and intake. Whatcha think.

Get good tires (31-32" BFG's, etc) and sliders (Calmini or Shrockworks). You're pretty much set from there. After that it's personal choice.

skid row makes some awesome plates. well worth every penny!!
www.skidplates.com an arb bullbar or calmini front bumper go along way in good looks and protection. and if you ever want to add a winch in the future, you'll need a good bumper to handle it.

Yup, the SkidRow (skidplates.com) are really the only full skid set available (do a fellow X owner a favor and order from J.D. @ louisvilleoffroad.com). Calmini (purenissan.com) has their own standalone gas tank skid, and a diff skid (I see little need for one).
Calmini's sliders are low-profile, good for protection from below, but not so much from the side. The Shrockworks and "4Crawler" sliders offer more side protection, with Shrockworks being the winner in the style department and 4Crawler being the price leader: Shrockworks.com, 4Crawler ARB, Calmini, TJM, and (soon) Shrockworks all offer heavy-duty winch-capable front bumpers, but if you're not planning on a winch, I'd consider them optional. The TJM T17 like I have is the cheapest option of the bunch so far but it's not quite as stout as the rest. Tires: I presume you have the 16" wheels, so you have some options on size and selection. The 265/75R16 is the ideal upgrade, it's about a 32" equivalent. Lots of choices in brand/style, I recommend the BFG AT or Dunlop Rover RT for excellent all-around use, though the new Bridgestone Deuler AT Revo is getting some very favorable feedback from folks lately. Cat-back and intake: your call, don't expect a miracle. Email me and I'll get you hooked up with GDCXC. We're heading to a 4x4 park in eastern PA on the 30th if you're interested. We'll take care of you. Brent |

ARB has a 2002+ bumper coming.
I don't get the diff skid either. You shouldn't drive over obstacles down the center anyway. However the skidrow gas tank skid is a nice piece to add after doing the other 3 main skids they have.Oh and don't forget the Calmini Rockcrawler gears. Awesome. |

Yeah, for $2k I would get 32" tires, Rock Sliders, Bilstein Shocks and probably HD Torsion Bars.

Believe it or not, I hit upon a situation at Coal Creek that would have been good for that skid plate. I could have made it over the rock, but at the risk of damaging my third member or drain plug. It wasn't worth it so I backed off and let it be. The rock was formed in such a way that there was only one way over it, but that one way required about 2" more clearance at the diff than I had. 35" tires probably could have made it over, but my 32's were not enough. But had I had a diff skid, I could have popped the gas and over I went. There are some uses for it. I actually plan on getting one for my truck before hunting season ends and off-roading season begins due to that one instance.

I can't remember how many times I've bonked and dragged my unprotected diff over rocks and such and it hasn't hurt it a bit. Yeah, I had to take a dremel with a carbide bit to re-square the recess in the drain plug when I changed the fluid a few weeks ago, but it put it right back in afterwards. All the diff skid would do for me is reduce clearance, catch mud, and make changing the diff fluid more of a chore. Now, if it had a nice nose that went out and protected the u-joint and yoke like some I've seen, that might be worth it, but the housing and third member can take plenty of abuse in my experience.
