New 5 Series
What do you think of the newly designed 5 series?
I think it is going to be a lot better. The new styling is really nice, the interior looks beautiful, and in 2005 the M5 comes out with a 500 hp V-10!!!

Nicer interior? Oh yeah! I forgot about Mercedes Benz's burlap seats and astro turf carpet.
![]() What's with the Thai headlights? And what is that gash running across the grill, Its like Bangle had a fit of rage, grabbing a razor blade and viciously slashing the clay prototype. I'm sorry but this car looks like some lexus that was flipped several times, all the angles are off. I'm sure that the quality and ride will be outstanding though.

yeah, my Uncle is going to be looking at the 5 soon. He's leaning towards the 545i, kick-ass if you ask me. You can't beat 325 horsepower from just 4.5 liters and still have good torque. But he's going to wait a year or so, so BMW works out all of the bugs.

Hit in the butt with a UGLY stick
I prefer the old body style to the new. I can deal with the front end, but the rear looks tacked on and out of sync with the front. The back of the 5 and 7 just make me ill. Have a long time Bimmer admirer who bought an Acura instead of the new 5 series when he got a glimpse of the new one and turned and ran. Hideous hideous design.

The BMW 5 Series has long been my favorite car, because it seemed perfect in every way. I had an E28 528e until Dec. 2002, and I like the E34 much better and want to get one now. The E39 ('97) is my favorite, and in my mind is possibly the most dynamically beautiful car ever. In fact, I truly couldn't see how that design could be improved upon, especially w. Chris Bangle in charge. I always used to laugh at Pontiac's clumsy imitations of BMW's, but now it's sad to say BMW seems to have tried to copy some ugly Pontiac theme. I also don't like how BMW seems to have broken with tradition in relation to the interior.
I haven't driven the new 5 Series, but I'm sure it has been improved dynamically. It's just too bad that the classically beautiful styling encasing this technological advancement has been mangled. |

- Perhaps BMW's best drive train
- iDrive: an experiment gone horribly wrong - Exterior Styling: Front OK; Rear marginal; Sides = slabs; Overall BMW would have been better served with a styling evolution rather than a styling revolution. I might own one for the performance but not for the appearance.
