just installed boost gauge
hey all i ve just installed a boost gauge... and my psi only reaches to 5... i think thats patheitically low ... even for a stock .. isnt it ?
im thinking there is a leak or some people have been telling me that there might be a problem with the waste gate actuator ... i just been to a tune shop and they told me that working on the waste gate would take hours .... they say that they have to undo the whole engine to get to it ... but some one has told me all he had to do was( he had the same problem ... slow car ... )remove the hose from the wastegate ... then push some compressed air down to free up the stuck open wastegate actuator ... hmmm any body got any ideas wat i should tell the tuners to do for my car? thx all |

5-6psi does seem pathetically low....but it's about right on the R33 gts-t.
A weak wastegate actuator spring can cause a drop in boost over time, and the best way to resolve the problem is indeed to replace the actuator with a stock new item. The job will take around 2 hours of a mechanics time, if you're paying for it.....but anyone who tells you it's an engine out job is talking bollocks. A cheaper way around the problem would be to fit a simple bleed valve inline with the actuator, to increase the boost to where it should be. This should be a safe procedure if you have fitted an accurate boost gauge.... laters Jon.

wont a boost controller also control this problem?

yes.
But a replacement actuator is cheaper. And a bleed valve is cheaper still. (But a boost controller DOES have cool lights and gadgets) You choose. Jon.
