Australia and New Zealand: Change the flag?

With all the Aussies and Kiwis on AF, I thought that I should better myself and get some culture into my life--yes, I'm bored at work again. I was looking up info on these countries and came across something very interesting. It seems that some people want to change the national flag of Australia and New Zealand. I think this would be a good idea. I didn't realise that the current flags look really similar. Plus it would be patriotic because it wouldn't be tied to the Union Jack.

Anyways, so the question is: To change or not to change the current flag.

Here are some links I found:

I haven't seen any arguments strong enough for me to be convinced to change the NZ flag.....the Union Jack plays a big part of our history whether we like it or not, and the Southern Cross is pretty self explanatory.

Maybe something with a little more Maori symbolism could be introduced...but I haven't seen anything that catches my eye.....perhaps the silver fern could could be put there on somewhere that would be cool.........

What do you other kiwi's think?

well, i had to do a research project a couple of weeks ago on New Zealand so i think that a new flag would be good....i have to agree that the flag in the link is a little to.....corny. I do beleive that the fern should be incorperated somehow because it has such importance in the Maori culture.....the main thing is that the people who are making these flags have their heart's and idea's in the right places ya know.....

:flash:

Cool

"Dont fix it if its not broke" Seems to apply here.

I am quite happy with the look of the Aussie and Kiwi flags and have never been confused by the similarity. Both countrys are in the same part of the world and share similar historys and even fought together under the ANZAC banner in the world wars.

Though the Aussie and Kiwi flags are very close in design I like them. I am not a kiwi citizen YET, but am a perminant resident so guess my input is sort of just personal feelings.

Besides changing a flag is not something anyone should take lightly.

That proposed one looks more like somthing iod expect to see on the side of a ferry or a tour bus or something.

Im pretty happy with the current one although on here i sometimes have trouble distinguishing the two flags cause theyre so small on my 17" monitor.

I dont think even if it was changed it should have Maori symbolism on it, its far too overplayed already, Yeah they were here before the european settlers but they wernt natiuve to here or anything, Im not going to go anyfurther into this cause I have strong views on this that probably wouldnt be universally accepted

I fully support the changing of the flag, New Zealand NEEDS to do away with the british flag in the corner. I dont like thee design in the link. Silver fern on black would look ideal in my opinion
