XP5 vs F1

Was just reading that Autocar's acceleration figures for the Maclaren F1 were done with the XP5, and that the XP5 was not identical to the production F1s.

Is this true? If so:

(a) Does anyone know what the differences actually are?
(b) Does anyone have any genuine figures for the production F1 (obviously R&T's time don't count as they were using the Ameritech)?

Caleb.

I can't reall elaborate on the differences because I'm not really sure, the only thing I recall is reading the book Supercars:Past and Present in which it talks about the differences between the XP used at Nardo by Jonathan Palmer that hit 231 mph was at least 50 BHP down on the production F1.

The only other things that I can recall at the moment were basic styling differences like headlight, and sidemarker placement, etc. And those were eventually brought in-line with the production spec versions. Maybe someone else knows a bit more about the Technical aspect of the differences, i.e transmission, running gear, etc..
