fiberglass
I really want to start making fiber glass speaker boxes and would like any and all info on fiberglass. What i had intended to do is to make a foam model of the box then transfer it to plaster to get a female mold then transfer back to a male mold with plaster, sand that down nice and smooth, make one more female mold then start laying down teh resin and fiber glass matte on the inside of the mold to ensure a silky finish. Is this a lil overkill, or even possible? i know very little about fiber glass and would like to have any input.

Re: fiberglass
A simple but effective way is to make your shape using paper mache, then go over it with a few layers of fiberglass. with that done, take away the paper mache, sand the fiberglass smooth and hey presto! job done, all that remains is to spray it...

Re: Re: fiberglass
an even simpler way it to build the box out of wood like normal, then fiberglass on top of the wood, it works believe me.

I built my fiberglass box by building a frame then cutting out rings for the speakers then puting suports to hold the rings up then stretch fabric (i used fleece) over the frame, staple it in place and then coat completely with fiberglass resin. Then layer on fiberglass then bondo and sand smooth.
