Homelink transmitter
I am new here (great site!). I was wondering if anybody has tried to replace the standard garage opener bin with a homelink transmitter? If so, how did it go? Without taking mine apart yet, it looks like you should be able to remove the old cover and just drop the unit in. Input is appreciated.

Just an update, I found a transmitter at the local junk yard and replaced the standard bin with unit. I had to add the wiring harness (orange +12 volts, purple w/stripe -12 volts, green unknown - I did nothing with it) and it just snapped in the same location. Be careful removing the unit from the console as the tabs brake off real easy. There appear to be two kinds, a flat one and a newer concave design. Both fit in the space. The old design had two wires, and the new design has an extra green wire. The unit works fine without it. The only other thing to keep in mind is that there appears that some of the older units do not support rolling codes and most new openers have that.

Me again. After thinking about it, I believe the green wire (see second post) has to do with the dash lights - it appears that there is backlight dots that light up, but I have not tested it yet.
