I was trying to replace my serpantine belt (88 chero 4.0 lim), and have run into a problem. I removed one of the "spools" that it rides on, and once I get it back on, of course the belt wont fit. Now, is it the power steering pump I need to loosen, and slide down? If it is, im having trouble getting it to go far enough. I dont believe there to be any special tool, is that correct? Please help...Im stranded!

Hi,
What model year is your cherokee? On the older models the Power steering pump pivots to allow tightening/loosening of the belt. The pump has two bolts in the back, and several in the front you must loosen. Then there is a bolt on the side of the pump (facing the driver's side fender) that you loosen/tighten to make the pump pivot. -Nick
