Well I'v heard that if you change the Intake Manfiold with the EGR valve it will pass. The inatake has to be from a USDM b16a2 or b16a3 those two are from a 99-00 si / 94-97 Del Sol Dohc Vtec. Tell of it worked. Good luck!

Look with a JDM motor It's not legal period. If you wanted the same motor then you should have gotton a USDM b16. Unless you can find another referee and pay his some extra $$$ mabey he might let u pass.
But other then that your......screwed.....sorry man

As long as the cat is still there there should be no problem. As I've said before, myself and a bunch of my friends have JDM swaps and we all pass emissions. Cali restrictions are harsh though. Just take it to the test center to see where you're at. It doesn't cost much.

Also of note, you can't by law put an engine older than the car itself. For example, you couldn't put a '91 B16 (JDM or USDM motor) into a '93 vehicle. The engine must be the same year or NEWER for it to pass the visual inspection. The mechanical part is easy, it's the visual inspection that they screw you on and you may have to find a shady shop that you can pay them off to sign the papers. Like said above, if had gone with a USDM B16, you wouldn't have much to worry about...

What part of the smog test did it not pass? The mechanical (pipe sniffer) test, or the visual inspection? If mechanical, what part specifically did it fail?

If it was the visual inspection it failed, most likely than not, a referee won't pass it then since they are more tightly governmentally regulated than a normal auto shop that does smog tests are. If you can't pass the visual, there is NO legal way for you to pass other than paying off some shady shop owner to write it off for you. Anyone in Cali that can't pass the visual will tell you that if they have mods or a JDM motor that is preventing them from passing legally.
