Cool Texas residents please don't be offended!!!

The following is the text of a severe weather alert issued for Austin, Texas yesterday (forwarded by my friend Rich). I hate to mock the Texas branch of the AWS, I just think they are being a little dramatic here, and I find it humorous Amazing the contrast between a little snow and ice here in New England (which basically amounts to “big fucking deal”) and a little of the same in Texas (Stay in your homes! Send in the national guard!)

Quote:
FREEZING RAIN...SLEET AND SNOW ACROSS VAL VERDE AND EDWARDS COUNTIES WILL SPREAD EASTWARD ACROSS THE HILL COUNTRY THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT AND INTO ADJACENT AREAS DURING THE NIGHT...ENDING FROM THE WEST LATE TONIGHT AND EARLY THURSDAY. ANY ICE WHICH ACCUMULATES WILL NOT BEGIN MELTING UNTIL MID AND LATE MORNING THURSDAY.

ANY TRAVEL IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. IF YOU LEAVE THE SAFETY OF BEING INDOORS...YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR LIFE AT RISK.

CONDITIONS CAN DETERIORATE RAPIDLY IN WINTER WEATHER SITUATIONS... SLOW DOWN AND ALLOW EXTRA TIME WHEN TRAVELLING. PRACTICE YOUR WINTER SAFETY RULES...KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT...BLANKET...SNACKS...AND WATER IN YOUR CAR IN CASE YOU ARE STRANDED.

Same thing here in Michigan. We laugh at the southerners who panic when there are only trace amounts of snow on the ground. Talk about over reacting.

*lol* really!

I once went ICE SKATING in my driveway after an ice storm that left 2" of ice, and 2 days later we were back in school w/o any delays, and it was no biggie

If you want snow try BUFFALO, NY. Places like Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland and Upstate N.Y. get a lot but Buffalo is insane. You expect it in places like Denver and Aspen or any mountainous area so that's why I chose these snow cities as examples.

oh man!! it was crazy this morning!! there were little tiny icicles on everything!! a little sidewalk bridge next to my house had some ice on that too!! i was afraid to go outside!!!(j/k)

that weatherman was going a little crazy about saying putting your life in risk but we don't have any anti-snow vehicles/methods here in south texas, so it is a little more serious but not that serious. all that crap about food and blankets in the car is funny though..

Holy crap that's so true. Didn't they get like 3' of snow in one day down there last year?
