Valiant - Cross breded child of many Chrysler brands put together into one near indestructable package, some with over 500,000kms and still unrestored, running around on Australian roads. Designed after some American Chryslers like the Dodge Dart. Valiant, inventer of the infamous 245 slant six Hemi, 225bhp(near tooo) out of a six cylinder Naturally aspired engine . With triple webber carbs some make over 350bhp with not many more mods.

All up, a Valiant is a well built, Australian icon that are still around today and are cheap as chips but more powerful then many Fords and GMHs of the time. Greatest Valiants ever made were the E49 Charger and Hemi Pacer.

Hi. Just new today and thought I'd visit this thread. My Husband and best mate are currently restoring an
old Valiant ute. Dont know what model but it's in very poor condition. They picked it up for $400 from a wrecker. They've just put a 360 under the hood and are attempting a paint job very soon. Should see this best running at Willowbank Raceway within 6 months. Lookout for AFRO02

I got a 73 valiant for $350 in not bad condition with a stock 318. i have a contact to a person wh can build me a 360 magnum for $1400 and im going to put that in the car. i like valiants and darts the car i really want is a 68 dodge dart hemi but i know that is going to be hard to find.

The international saga of the Valiant, from concept in the mid-late '50s to the last versions in the late '80s-early '90s, can be read in large part at http://www.valiant.org .

Chrysler Australia had several versions of the "Chrysler Valiant" as they called it. One of these was the Chrysler Pacer (unrelated to the AMC Pacer). Some versions of the Valiant (maybe including the Pacer; I don't remember but valiant.org has the info) had a slant-6 with Hemi heads and three two-barreled carburetors which was referred to locally as the Hemi Six-Pack. Doesn't quite have the brute force of a 426 Hemi or a 440 Six-Pack (or even a 340 Six-Pack) but it gave a lot of power for a Valiant...

just so you know the hemi 6 pack was not a slant that was a different engine all together the slant was an older engine 225ci and the big hemi 6 pack with triple carbs was the E38 & E49 265 hemi there is some more info i posted in the chrysler forum named have you ever herd of the aussie charger some pics too here is some more pics of chryslers of AU/NZ

Ther is a guy with a couple of Australian muscle cars he shows at the Friday night car show in Garden Grove, California. They look like smaller versions of American muscle cars with stripes, spoilers, etc. but the steering wheels are on the RIGHT side. You can also see some Australian cars at speed in Mel Gibson's early Mad Max movies, but those are severely modified.

They are fords XB & XC coups & sedans that you are talking about. they came in a lot of diferent models XB GT & XC GLX being the best.
check them out lots of info in google.

They were quicker than all of them.
I got this info from a site and it is not my words but will give you an idea on how good these cars were in there time and still are today.

All you have heard about the incredible Chrysler Charger R/T E49 is true. At the time of E49s release, it's 302hp treble Weber 6 Pack Hemi was the most powerful production 6-cylinder engine in the world. A little known factory option was a Bathurst cam, which upped the power to a rather healthy 325hp! The 265 Hemi 6 Pack engines also have a magnificent spine tingling howl all of their own.

Wheels magazines 1972 road test of the E49 recorded 0-60mph in 6.1 seconds, 0-100mph in 14.1 seconds, standing quarter in 14.4 seconds, top speed 132mph. This made the E49 the fastest accelerating production car in Australia and the fastest accelerating production 6-cylinder car in the world. Not bad for a 25 year old stock standard 6-cylinder Valiant! Today with modern tires, NZ E49s have easily broken the 14-second barrier through the quarter and with higher gearing, NZ E49s have been timed at over 150mph.

Wheels (1972) said of the E49: ìWhere the Charger is absolutely unbeatable is in winding mountain country. We don't mean tight hairpin bends, though it is still horribly quick through these, but on fast open sweepers and meandering switchbacks. The raw quivering power is instantaneously on tap and with a ratio for every conceivable situation the Charger just storms through and it would take a Ferrari Daytona with Jackie Ickx behind the wheel to stay with one.

All these stats are on the stock engine and with mods, they have broken the 10 sec mark over the 1/4 naturally asperated.

Also this is what a slant six looks like and did not have 3 carbs or a hemi head
