Question Tires for a CL-S

Does anyone know if a 235/45-17 tire will fit on the CL-S?

The oem size is 215/50-17. According to my calculations the 235/45-17's would have a slightly smaller circumference [less than 1%] smaller and would be merely 2 cm or less than an inch wider in sidewall width. According to tirerack.com and discount tire direct this size would be too large and would rub against either the strut assembly or the fender. I noticed that they did offer a plus-2 upgrade of 225/45-18 and 235/35-19. Going for the plus one or plus two sizes would risk bent rims whenever I hit potholes.

I feel the oem tires are too narrow and there are a lot more tires offered in the 235/45-17 size. Can anyone tell me whether this size would fit?
