S14 front speakers
i got some new rockford fosgate speakers for my 97 240 (because the stock ones were all blown and/or fuzzy). i want to put them in myself to save some money on installation costs. how do i put the speakers in? i checked the speaker grille and it doesn't seem to pop out, so i assume the door panel needs to be taken off. if anyone has pictures of how to do this, that would be great. figuring out the rear speakers shouldn't be a problem because you can get to them throught the trunk. btw, i checked the FAQ on 240sx.org and there was a topic about this, but for some reason the picture wouldn't come up. thanks

For the front speakers you need to take the door panel off. First lower your window all the way. Then there are some screws around the edges of the panel and in the handles. Remove these, then pop loose the panel from the bottom (it has plastic gizmos that hold it on). Then just lift it up and off. Then the speaker can be unscrewed from it's mount in the door.
For the rear speakers you need to remove the trim panel that sits on the rear deck. You can do this by just lifting carefully from the from edge. It is held on with more of those plastic gizmos. You can also go in through the trunk and push them up a little by hand to get it started if you are paranoid about breaking them. Once it's loose just lift and pull the panel out. Then you can unscrew the speakers. |

There should be 4 screws holding each speaker in. I changed both the fronts and rear on my car because they were all blown. The rears are easier than the fronts to change. I only say that because it just required pulling that rear deck trim off rather than taking off the whole door panel. For the rear deck trim there are like 6-8 of those little plastic looking screws. As long as you pull straight up, you will not break them. I've taken it off many times to do various things and haven't broken them once. It will feel kind of tight at first like it won't want to come up but just keep pulling and it will become free. You'll need to lay the back seat down for this as well. The front is pretty much the same but just takes a little more time because there are a couple extra things to remove (a couple screws, the power window/lock controls, electrical harness from the controls).
good luck
