Unhappy Questions about "Oil Slinger" for 1979 Trans Am for 403

Hello I'm rebuilding a 1979 Trans Am and I need an oil slinger. The oil slinger is located after the timing chain and was designed to "sling" oil on the chain. I CANNOT find this part anywhere. First I started at the auto parts stores...no luck. Then GM.....part discontinued. Called 20 junk yards....still nothing. I have a couple of question regarding this.

1) Does any have this part for sale?
2) Can I use another gear to act as an oil slinger?
3) Do I need to use an oil slinger at all?

Thank you.
