94 accord lx, when I turn AC on, water drips on passenger side. I checked the thingy under glove box and see water condensing and dripping onto the floor. I also checked on web about honda ac and found an alldata.com site where it notes that there is a "corroded a/c condenser general recall. its number was tsb 96010. Does anyone know anything else about this. Car runs well with 68k, anyone wanna buy? lol

Ah, I know what you're talking about. Mine did the same thing, especially whenever I turned a corner...the water would make a splashing sound, and I'd see it stream out the passenger side from the front of the car. If you look at where it's pouring from, you'll see condensation building up. I didn't have to replace or repair anything, I just took it to a dealer and they blew a lot of air through the whole thing. Turns out it was just clogged.
When you turn off the car and get out, do you see any water dripping from the bottom of it? If not, then you probably have a clog as well. Just take it to a Honda dealer, and they should be able to fix it right away. |

Ok, I located the evaporator drain tube, took a piece of old computer cable and shoved it in there until it popped out the other side and voila, I think I got this thing fixed. Put the drain tube back on the evaporator drain lead and turned on the A/C and I think save for a few drops or so, most of the water came out of the tube onto the pavement. I let it run for a while and pretty dry inside the car, except for a few drops, but nothing like before. All water went outside. Im waiting for an ultra-humid day to confirm the success, but so far, so good

Cool. I guess this is a little more common than I thought. I've heard of others having the same problem with theirs. But if it clogs up again, take it to a place and they'll just shoot a lot of air until everything is out. I'm sure it will work. Mine had this problem over a year ago. I got it fixed and it's still good today.

The problem with taking it to a place is that they try to rip you off. Some of the places I called wanted to take out my evaporator and make a whole job of it. I just dont like going to these guys and they may actually get pissed if I tell them that all it needs is a squirt of air. I know that if I leave it at Honda, they may also try to make a big job out of this

You have what is usually leaves caught in the evaporator box clogging the drain. The temporary fix is to push something up into the drain hole and clear the restriction or use compressed air. This works for a while. The only real way to clean it is to have the a/c system discarded and remove the evaporator box and clean everything out. Of course, I would only do this if the first option doesn't repair it. I had one that kept clogging about every 2 weeks and I had to remove the evaporator box and clean it out.

I never had a problem with the Honda Dealer, I actually got pretty lucky. They didn't charge me for this, 'cause it only took like 10 minutes to blow all the air through the system. It wasn't even the same dealer the car was bought from. But for now, just try it yourself...you had the right idea with the computer cable I think. Maybe try some of that dust blower stuff next time.

So far so good, today was humide and we are still pretty dry, hey, if I have to shove a tube in there every month, it doesnt bother me since we only have 3 or so months of summer here anyhow, but the car even smells better. How a leaf would get in there I just dont know, but what sounded like a leaf fluttering around is gone. Its only a car, but in my neck of the woods, everyone is trying to rip you off and there are plenty of businesses out there depending on suckers to keep the bucks flowing. Its really hard to find anyone with integrity and thats why I buy Hondas, they are the most reliable. I have a friend who's mechanic tells him that foreign japanese cars suck, then I ask him "why is he always hanging out with his mechanic"!!!! who he swears by. Mechanics probably hate Hondas and just sneer at them, they have to love Yank cars, built to fall apart, a mechanics dream.

Exactly. That's the biggest reason I would only take my car to an actual Honda dealer...it might cost more, but they have all the parts they need right at the place, plus they actually know what they're doing. Most regular mechanics are used to the domestic cars...and yeah, that's where their business is coming from.
But anyway, I'm glad to hear your water problem is/will be solved. It sucked when it happened to me...no one could sit on the passenger side...I was thinking about putting a sign on there that said "Riders may get wet or possibly soaked." |
