ac troubleshooting

Alright...the ac clutch does not ingage so I went through the troubleshooting steps...i have voltage on the white wire and the blk/yel so next it tells me to put a jumper from white to red which works the clutch ingages...now it says to disconnect red terminal and check voltage on it which there is none so now it says to fix open in red wire between compressor clutch relay and compressor clutch connector...this doesnt make sense...if there was an open in the red wire how did jumping the red and white make the clutch ingage...does that make sense...someone help me out here

a/c problems

a/c is simple. All a/c systems are about the same. power comes froms your control panel to a sensor called a freeze switch to a high pressure switch to your compressor. It may have a relay in here, my honda dosent have a/c just going on knowledge. THe relay should have a constant wire, ground, hot from control panel, and a wire going to the a/c compressor. If you jump your freeze switch, which it sounds what your doing when the clutch activates, you just need freon.
