Exclamation Fixed Speed Camera Update

Well Nzers it is official. Those bloody stupid fixed speed cameras are going to be back in full opertation agian probably in time for the Christmas and New Year's holidays.

Another addition is you won't be able to challange the fine this time around so easily as they will be certed quite often so if you get the picture of your car in the mail this time around ya is all done! Plus they are planning to have ALL of them in full operation 24hrs with the limit set at 10kms over.

I'd have to say that they're a pain in the ass!! All it does is slow people down for the time that they are over the speed camera lines in the road and then they speed up again! Just another revenue collecting device for the cops if you ask me!

Well, I had to vote for "They work and slow people down."
Because:
1. They work (i.e. they take photos)
2. They slow people down.

But of course as FTO points out they only slow you down while you're driving over the mag-pad thinees. Hmmm, so perhaps I should have picked the needless braking one.

Still, the advantage of needless braking is the hard accelerating that must follow. Heh heh hee...

I agree with them in some of the streets we have here to slow people down around schools etc........but generally i think they are a waste of time. Everyone knows were they are because they stick a sign up to say so ...... what a joke.
As we all have said....you race up to the lines, hit the brakes to drive over the lines then speed up again.
If they want to slow ppls down......just have a car placed anywhere at anytime witrh a camera in the back.

But out on the open road....common sense is all that is needed

The government can't even put our property taxes that goes towards public schools in the right place. This is just another ploy of our wondeful gov. to make themselves rich.

I think speed limits are there for a reason, and the speed camera's enforce those limits. If you think "your" speed limit should be higher than everyone else's, then go drive/live someplace else.

I would be annoyed however if the money gained from speed camera's wasn't channeled back into driver education and training - just put into the slush fund to pay people who are long term unemployed - that ain't fair at all.

I would not say invasion of privacy. More just a pain in the ass on the open roads. In town I can understand, but even so morons smack the brakes and their NOT EVEN speeding!

I have been behind drivers going the speed limit and they will slow down to like 10 kms under! The damn thing will not snap you until you reach 10 over. Not to mention all imported Jap cars that come to New Zealand have speedos that read 10% higher than your actually going.

That is what I was wondering. Once you leave your property you have no privacy, thus why it is called public!

U guys are lucky...we've had them in the Uk for a couple of years now...the police's original point of putting them was to slow people down near high accident rate roads, but when they found they can make a lot of easy money from this they started popin up everywhere...and the money they make they use to put more out......wots worse is when U have them on long stretches of roads where you got variable speed limits, if you don't pay attention to the speed limits, u can get caught out very easily, as where earlier on the same stretch of road u could do 50, a small section suddenly appears where the limit is 30 and so on........

one thing though, there are websites, and in some car mags, positions of all the fixed cameras can be found, so U can workout prior to your journey, where U will expect to find them.......

plus people who use the same route everyday know where they are, so know exactly when to slow down and speed up......may beat the speed trap but could cause accident, if driver behind U doesn;t know why you r suddenly slowin....
