cooling hose problem ?
I have a '94 4-runner with v-6. Head gasket was already replaced by the
dealer. I think thats all. well radiator is new ( under 10 months). coolant was flushed and air bled. this week, noticed oil pressure low, checked oil pressure, found to be ok. but could here comething boiling from the engine. when it cooled, had to add a GALLON and a half !! also reservoir was foaming indicating over heating. this with no visual leaks, ALL fluid color ok. next day, took to a friend and had it leak dye pressure tested. found a leak at back of motor which looks like coming form bell housing. question is anyone come across this before ? any suggestions ? maybe hose blown off or freeze plug/ water jacket out ? thanks in advance .. |

sounds like the head gasket again dude. the sixes in those trucks are known for head gasket problems. have some one check for hydrocarbons in the over flow after running for 10 mins or so using a sniffer. another indictation would be a rough idle and hestation when cold. good luck

ok people here is the update. I found out this is a common problem. it
turned out to be the WATER BYPASS HOSE !! if your not familiar, it is a hard metal tubing that runs from the water pump to the water bypass valve. underneath the intake manifold. If you look behind the motor at the firewall end, you will see a bunch of hoses with fittings running there. were these connect is a common place for corrosion. during a pressure test with leak dye it was pinpointed to this area. just a thought incase any of you have a problem, check this before taking apart your head gaskets. |
