Is it a Formula?

There is a guy here in town who has a 1970 Firebird for sale.
He says that it is a Formula 400 Ram Air III, but I am not sure how to check.
I know that the Ram Airs were limited. Something like 1300 were made for that year. But I haven't been able to find any build number information.

Camaros have a cowl tag with most of the build information, but I haven't ben able to find anything about Firebirds and a build tag.

Says it is a 1970 Firebird 400 Ram Air 3.
Pontiac 400
4.11 rear end
3-speed
It does have the ram air hood, but that is easy enough to replace.

Any help?
Suggestions?

You are right about the revving...
Seemed a little odd to me to have 4.11 with a 400.

My friend has a Nova with 3.83 and a 350 and it is a screamer. But I don't think he has a posi unit like this Firebird. Lots of peg-leg burnouts.

But thanks for the help...

Re: Is it a Formula?

1970 fromula firebirds could have 7 different rear axle ratios. they are-- 2.73, 3.07, 3.08, 3.31, 3.36, 3.55, and 3.73. the vin.on a70 formula should read someting like this 22687N(or L)100001. THE COWL PLATE SHOULD HAVE W66 ON IT SOMEWHERE!!Hope this helps.

I called the place that had the car listed looking for the cowl tage numbers, and they admitted that the car was not a real formula.

That was a while ago, so I went and bought a 1968 Camaro that was here in town. Just waiting for the weather to warm up a little before I head back out to the garage.

Thanks for your help. Maybe it will help somebody else out....
