96 Civic instrument cluster
I have a 96 DX that i'm planning some work for. I unfortunatly havn't had any money over the summer due to some unexpected housing expenses, but i spent the time looking at different mod paths and at parts. I'm looking forward to working on my baby this winter!
Anyway, the DX, as you well know, doesn't have a tachometer. I want/need one, but I don't want a rice-bowl 5" monster or something like that. the concept that i've got of my car right now is something that looks almost, but not quite, stock, and is NOT stock performance. does anyone know of a perfect match instrument cluster with a tach, or one that can be added? any other methods of adding a tach that are inobvious? i live in the midwest, finding parts for an import is like finding water in the sahara, so any links to providers of said tachs would be greatly appreciated! thanks, bill

96 model being the EK series, right????
in australia the basic model is the Cxi (which i think is the same as the DX in the states) no power windows or mirrors, rear drums and of course NO TACHO. The next model up is the GLI (dont know the equivalent in the states) which has power windows and mirrors, 4 wheel discs and TACHO. wat i did was to replace my current instrument cluster with one from a GLI. The good thing is that there is no re-wiring involved, just plug and play. Its very easy to do and will take you only about 5 minutes. Another good thing is that it all looks stock as rock. I even went as far as changing the speedometer gauge to keep the same km's travelled. were do you find one............at your local honda wrecker (luckily, plenty over here) or i suppose over the internet. let me know how you go. |

i think that the GLI model would probably be the equivilent of the LX, which has all the goodies and a VTEC engine stock...
i'll TRY to find an import junkyard around here, but i'm probably going to end up buying it off the 'net. Anyone have any links to OEM suppliers? thanks, bill

Any cluster from the same generation will work. You can use the 99-00 Si cluster, EX, or LX. It's all plug and play. I got an Si one in my girls 00 DX hatch and I installed an EX cluster in my boys 00 DX. The EX lighting will match the rest of your dash illumination but I had to buy the Si climate control and CD player to match up my girls dash.
