yea im running 215/45's up front and 225/45's on back. i should have went 225's on front too so i can rotate them. the tread on my rear tires is pretty worn now from the burning out and shit i did. if you have 7.5's i think you can fit 235's on them. go the widest you can fit and afford! but i think once you hit 245's you will need spacers.

sorry it took so long to get back, i got a job, have had no power here for a day and am surprised at the new look of af

Since I've never really had to deal with traction issues (always had AWD DSM's) will wider tires on the rear of a 240sx help alot with traction? Because if I do decide to get a 240 and do RB25DET (my other option is 97 DSM AWD) I have a feeling traction is gonna be a big concern. So what all is involved with using 245's or even 255's? How do spacers work? They just push the wheel out some? Does it effect tire wear/handling/traction or anything else? How much are spacers? I think it would look pretty nice to have a set of 255 meats on the back of a 240, hehe. People would be like "DAMN." Oh, and sorry to hijack the thread.

Thanks,
Jason

I wouldn't go much wider than the 225, maybe a 235..

If you had 255 in the back and thinner (205/215/225) in the front it would push like crazy... I would wager to say it would continue to push even if you had the 225's up front... especially considering how much front offset you would need to make the 255 fit the front..

Like i said, I have all 225/50ZR-16's on my S14, and i get plenty enough of the "steamroller" look.

Well, granted the 255's would look dope on the back, my only concern isn't looks. All my domestic buddies keep telling me for best traction RWD wider tires will help a great deal. Maybe they are just "dumbestic" owners, but I dunno, any other input? And what do you mean by "push" like it would push me through the corners? Seems like that would be good for drifting, etc, but I am probably completely misunderstanding what you are saying.

Thanks,
Jason

actually quite the opposite.. it will push you into corners meaning that you will turn the steering wheel, and not turn..

Wide tires in the back causes UNDERSTEER
Drifting is nothing more than controller Oversteer.

an ideal DRIFT suspension setup would be something along the lines of:

Wider front tires,
Narrower rear tires
Stock front sway bar,
STIFF as hell rear sway bar
Mass amounts of front camber in the front ~3-5 degrees
mild rear camber .25-.75 degrees
Stiff as hell rear shocks/springs
mild set front shocks/springs

This is all theory based on my experience with roadrace car set-up.. so correct me if i am wrong.. but this setup in one of my RX-7's would yeild crazy oversteer and would be a dangerous set-up at Mid-ohio, Road atlanta, or VIR, where there are alt changes, and offcamber turns.... at the apex of the turn... with this set-up.... you would spin wildly out of control....

Please note than drift tracks are mostly in-camber or flat tracks...

If you like, I am sure we could start a whole thread on suspension set-up. what happens if you adjust something a certain way, tire width, wheel offset, tire compound, brake compound, brake bias, camber, caster, sway bar, damber bound and rebound, spring rates, toe, etc

Come to think of it, GT1-3 on playstation is a cheap way to experiement..

thank you both for the answers. i think i'm going to go with 225 but i'm still not sure what tire to pick. its mostly for autocross but will still be an everyday driver and i'll be living in AZ in a month so wnter tires don't matter.

i highly recommend 225's... best of both worlds. if you want to go for a super fast car tho get 295's

check out the tread of the tire in my sig. they are goodyr eagle f1 gs-d3's. they are the best possible street tire you can get. i highly recommend.

i have driven through rain like it was dry cement, went over big numerous potholes, and just ran over a piece of scrapmetal on the highway yesterday and there isn't a nick in them. and i keep them at 50 psi
