Hi guys. Here is my problem. When I pull out of my drive way, I put the car in revers and it makes a LOUD CLICK noise. But if I back the car up and then drive out of the driveway in D4, it does not make the noise. I also noticed that when my windows are down while driving, I can hear the same noise after my transmission shifts gears. Is my tranny dying? Any theories on why this is happening? All the info is much appreciated. Thanks

Mine does the same...I think it's just the sound of gears shifting. If I put it in reverse, it clicks because it's changing the gear. If I put it back in 1, it does the same...same with 1 to 2, because it's actually manually shifting the gear. If you aren't moving, and shift to D3 or D4, it will not make a sound, since that is the automatic part...the car won't start you out in 3rd or 4th, but it will shift to them when it feels necessary.
Just sit in the drive way with the windows down, and shift between R, 1, and 2. You'll hear the click. |

ok, well I have thje same problem, I have a manual tranny though, but I put it in first and when I let out the clutch, when it forst starts moving i hear the left front click, same as in reverse when i let out the clutch. also when my window is down and im going if i tap the gas to make the car jerk ar it go click, click. I was guessing it was the axle, but do you think I need a new one or could I just pull it, and take off boots, clean bearings and the cup and whatever the other things called and regrease it up, would that silence the noise and make it last a while longer?

IF it is the axle clicking, no re-booting will not cure the problem. 2 axles from Honda is about $120(all new cv joints, boots, etc.) 4 CV boot kits from Honda is about $120 :: parts only @ list price

I dont just mean rebooting, but mauybe this consists of cleaning regreasing as well, but you dont think that will even quiet it for a month, maybe 2?

New boots(with grease) may quiet the clicking until the axle breaks. You could rebuild the cv joints & w/ new boots, but that would cost more than a simple axle replacement.
