Have the carpets shampooed, change the microfilter. Take it to a auto detailer. That's the best you can hope for.

What about that Febreeze stuff? I've used it on a couch before that smelled horribly of mildew and it took the odor away after a couple of sprays. I don't know about car interiors though, with the leather seats and all... Not sure if it's safe for that kind of material.

It might be something to look into though. Bottles of it are less than $5.

Use the extra strength stuff. I've bought cars that stink and I used the whole damn bottle! Your car will smell like fabric softener for a few days, but It will totally eliminate the smell. Also clean the inside of the windows and buy some interior cleaner to get the oily smoke crap off of all of the surfaces in the car. Don't forget to spray the bejesus out of the headliner and carpet. Also, turn on the a/c and find the vent that takes air in, turn on the fan and get in there too.

Thumbs up

The above suggestions are all very good, especially the auto detailling. If it was my car I would break out the Zeno leather cleaner and the Zeno Plastic and vinyl cleaner, buy a box of Q-Tips and go to town on every nook and cranny in teh car. Especially along the edges of the windows and doors. You can cover up the existance of tar, nicotine, soot and ash or you can remove them all with good old fashioned elbow grease. Also Ozium works really well for all car smells, but you should not breathe the suff, let it sit for a few minutes before driviing the car. :alien:
