Which model Town Car do you have ?
I believe the Signature and Cartier have the wire harness pre installed.
Do you have a CD button on your head unit ?

I have a Signature and I have the cd button.

How can I regonize the wire . There are two wires behind the spare tire that are pluged into each other , could these be the wires I need ?

I'm not real familliar with the 2000 model, but since you have the CD button and the Signature model, you most likely have the whole harness as well.

In my 1996 the CD changer is mounted behind the facia on the drivers side of the trunk. They put a door there to cover it up...
Hmmmm, I have a picture around here someplace...

Check here for some specs... this is 1996 !!

OK, I uploaded that shot too...

I am trying to install a CD changer in my 97 Signature Series. Is there a factory bracket involved that I have to obtain? I was able to purchase the 10 CD SONY Changer from someone for that year but I need the mounting hardware. Is there a vendor who sells these aftermarket?

All informatin would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks!

Cool

Check this reply to a similliar problem (from another forum). There's no mention of a specific bracket, but there's talk of upgrading and conversions:
Here's the link...

Oh btw, where are you mounting the Sony ? Was the wire harness and facia cutout in the trunk ?

Here's another one.....
And another one.....
And another one.....

This may seem like overkill, but there's tons of related information here

CD changer

Thanks for the help. I guess I'm up the old creek without a paddle. Can't find anything in my trunk. Guess I have to go to the dealer.

Woah... dpmyer...

Hold on there screeeeech.....

I'm referring to my 1996 for the trunk application, this also applies to kredfish's 1997.

As for your 2000.. the factory changer may have been mounted elsewhere, I don't know.

Try joining http://www.lincolnsonline.com and ask the same question there. There's allot more TownCar owners over there and their talking 24/7

Could be your 2000 is mounted within drivers reach ?

There is a bracket for mounting the CD exchanger. You might try www.car-part.com. They have the CD, so they must be able to get the hangers that go with them.

Hey Towncar, I have a 97 TC signature, the radio unit is mounted in the trunk on the passenger side. Those are some good pictures, I guess I will have to remove the covering on the sides to see if there is a wiring harness. I would like to add the CD exchanger but I'm not sure the wiring is there. I do have the preimum radio with all the buttons. When I press CD I get NO DJ message.

Eureka!!! I just checked behind the covering on the trunk, and low and behold there was the wiring harness. I think I will get the changer and put it in.

Re: cd changer

I have one if you are interested. Ended up getting rear ended before I installed it so it is still sitting in storage. It is made by SONY as OEM for the Town Car. It's carriage holds 10 CDs.

Rear ended!!! Damn.. Sorry to hear that. Did you lose the entire car? There's lots of folks that would be interested in some of those parts.

Lets see....
I'll need the ABS module & spare tire cover..

Some guys would kill for the leather seats, mirrors, dash panels, door panels, hood emblem, front grille, stereo, CD changer.. (ok I'll have that too if no-one wants it), sub-woofer..

Some engine components, even the engine and trans would make it to a good home. I saw someone at LoL looking for a hood too.

Re: cd changer

Correction....The connectors I found were for a stupid cell phone setup. After further examination I have discovered I do not have the wiring harness for the cd changer. I had to order one form the local ford dealer.
