Dunno whats happening. I don't advocate the idea of cutting off Queen Street, but If he wants to stop people dropping diesel on public roads and doing burnouts then thats fine by me - I think thats just lame.

i heard that they put signs up going into queen street saying that after 11pm (or something) it was a taxi and bus road only, but they didnt enforce much and you can still go down there but not alot of people do.

but its pretty strange if everyone just stopped going there. it was a pretty big community (the 'boyracer/queenstreet' community)
but i spose with the night drag wars on, people will be going there.

but john banks is a bit of a knob fullstop, like how he doesnt want to spend any more money on one tree hill (or no tree hill now) and when people go and plant trees up there he pays to get them pulled out!!! it didnt cost him anything to put them in so why doesnt he leave the trees alone!!!

anyway, this is all old news......

John Banks is our newly elected Mayor of Auckland, New Zeleand. He is a real winner or (wanker for us nzers).

This guy used to hoon around when he was younger and has own various high performance sports cars, including is turbo bently!

Recently he got busted for speeding and for his young passenger (grandson or daughter) not wearing a life vest while on an unregistered jetsky! Talk about a hypcrite!

During his campain he platfourmed on stopping the "boyracers" who are drag racing up and down Queen Street, down town Auckland. Now this is a main drag where you are lucky to achieve 20 mph or @ 35kms! The whole problem is as he see's it, is that if you own a nice car with any sort of performance enhancing modifications including tinted windows, flash mag wheels, body kit, etc etc., you are a hoon and do not deserve to own or drive a car.

This guy is pathetic beyond normal rational. The only problem is he has a following in the older communtiy circles which carries weight in the local government due to they actually get out and vote.

The local police are interested in closing down a main street on a Sat or Fri night. Banks insisted it was to allow mom, dad, and junior to walk, or drive up and down and visit the local shops at night. Are you kidding me! What parents in the right mind is going to be dragging their kids out on the town after 11pm! let alone walking up and down the local strip that has a few massage parlors. Banks lives in fantisy land.

The real problem now is he has convinced the highway patrol to set up road blocks on our major roads to try and catch cars that do not meet the New Zealand LTSA (Land transport Authority) deffinition of a road worthy car. Nzer's know it as a W.O.F. or warrent of fitness. This includes some of the following.

Illegally lower suspension (no low volumne mod cert)
Tinted windows
Loud exhaust
bumpers
illeaglly display lic plates
any outside light marker not working
the list goes on. the cops are throwing the books at anyone who's car would even remotely look like a performance car or flash car. Mind you I recently went through a check point where the young gal in front of me got waved through and I got breath tested! The cop even had a stupid grin on his face and looked really dissappointed when it came up "O" . He shook the breath tester and said to try again. Said nice try but since I don't drink guess you will have to get someone else aye mate, then pissed of down the road laughing at him.

I only half agree with John Wanks, diesel poured on the road is plain stupid I agree that far, but closing off Queen St????? How dumb is that???? All he is doing is furthering congestion.

I know how you feel razor, the police stopped me at a checkpoint, because my car has an Induction kit, body kit and Mag wheels, they think boy racer, a 26 year old boy racer in a 607???????? Come on!!!
