Re: New 4-Door Coupe CLE

The headlights look like a cross between those of the Maybach and a C-Class. Do you have any stats on it?

Alright, thanks anyway. Isn't the new 7-speed gearbox being fitted to another of their present cars, because I read about in their magazine?

Yea, the new 7-speeds are being put in the 5.0L V-8s and the 5.5L V-12s. So the CLK, E, and S will be getting new 7-speed trannies.

what's the definition of coupe? i assumed it was a 2 door 4 passenger vehicle? Sorry, i need some help with this one. I've heard of 4 door coupes, but what makes it a coupe and not a sedan?

Technically, the definition you gave for a coupe would be correct. Nowadays, more car companies are beginning to create "4-door coupes" such as Mazda's RX8 and Mercedes Benz's CLE. The definition of a coupe that they are using is: "an automobile with a sleek cabin shape, much like that of a F16 cockpit, with enough sportyness to be called a coupe". (that is what i'm infering by these new 4-door coupes, not based on actually quotation or inside information). If you look at either the Rx8 or the CLE you will notice a sleek and slender shape with a "squashed" rear cabin. The doors of the rear cabin are obviously smaller than in sedans, but this is only for asthetic purposes, as the rear cabin in quite inviting. (this is from a personal trial of the RX8 and not the CLE, even though the CLE's rear cabin looks fairly large). So, in summary, a 4-door coupe is a long-wheelbase coupe, extended in the rear for 2 or 3 more occupants.

An uglier version, if you ask me, and certainly not a coupe in my books. Is it definitely going into production?
