No AC! Faster.....

Hi,

I stripped out my entire A/C system:
compressor, belt, evaporator, cables and wires.
Pretty much everything for the A/C.
I have the DPFI 1.5 liter engine 5 speed.
Well, to me its just amazing how much power u actually gain.
Especially in the 3000 and up RPM's.
Did any of u strip out ur A/C and notice any gains?
My acceleration has greatly inproved it feels like.
How much HP do you think this gains u?
I know it removes the extra dead weight (wasnt using A/C enyways)

I don't think it free's up a ton of HP, but it does free up a bit of it. I ditched my AC when I got my b16 swap, so I don't really have anything to reference from.

I never really noticed any difference when I took mine out, except for maybe the turn it was a bit better since less weight in the front.

I'm with Lisa on this one -especially as our summer temps hit 40 degrees Celsius + at the peak of Summer. Drivetrain loss to ancilleries such as PS/AC/Alternator/Water pump is about 2bhp - more if the AC is engaged.

i kept mine too and its the stupidest thing i have ever spent money on ... 2 blown compressors, labor, the whole r134a conversion ... fuck it all

Ive said it before and ill say it again, while A/C is nice, i will NEVER fix it on another car i own ... tint the windows dark as fuck, roll with em down, and be done!

And I dont live THAT close to the Bay ... where i go to school (concord) it is often as hot as it is in the central valley (where lisa lives)

hey siz ... where do you get one of them cams and about how much do they go for? sounds like a sweet investment.
