I have a 1995 Maxima SE, 150,000 miles.
Recently the Mass Airflow Sensor went out (I pulled the codes). I had a mechanic tell me that it was caused by the oil from the K&N air filter (installed 3 months ago) clogging the sensor. I've heard some negative feedback on the K&Ns letting dust through, but this is a first for me. A couple parts shops I talked to assured me that was unlikely, but I'd like some feedback on this one. Anyone seen problems with a MAF caused by a K&N? Thanks ![]() PS - What I'm experiencing is periodic drops in RPMs, frequently causing the engine to stall. Sometimes it runs fine, other times I'm lucky to get off the side of the road. Anything other than the MAF that I should be looking at? I'm waiting on the part now. I've double-checked the fuel pump, spark plugs, lines, etc just to be safe. I want my good 'ol Maxima performance back. |

Damn, too bad, maybe you should PM Thrasher and say that I said to tell him about your MAF Failure using an aftermarket intake (K&N).
Yes this is somewhat of a very familiar problem over at www.maxima.org, many of the fellaz over there can tell you about their MAF Failure problems. Your mechanic is right, too much oil from the any aftermarket filter can cause a MAF Failure it isn't only K&N. What you have to do is oil the filter and let it sit out overnight with a cloth or papertowel under it so that all of the excess can run off, this way none of the excess ends up on the MAF Sensor. Sorry about your problem, maybe you should've just done the GAB Mod.

yeah it happens. here's what I'll do:
get the MAF and clean it especially around the resistor and make sure it is dry. meanwhile clean the K&N filter and don't out too much oil in it or put back the factory airbox and you should be cherry. |
