?? Transmission Swap ??
Hey guys I need a little input on whats needed for me to swap my 4spd manual tranny to a SI 5spd, and is a used ATC clutch a good deal for $30? I had my car for 2 weeks now and its been a great running car! But yesterday i did something real foolish, it was raining and i spun the tires 1st 2nd and then tried to shift into 3rd and it grinded and refused to go into 3rd, so i was like w.e and went on doing what i do. But then today when i went to drive it and had to shift into 3rd it would do a grinding noise as if i didnt engage the clutch all the way. keeps doing it regardless if i shift it smoothly. So i been wanting to get a 5spd neways. Im sick of 3000rpms at 65mph. neways your input will be appreciated.
Thank you Dustin |

You will need the trans and if you want to use your current axles you will need to swap the inner joints to 88-91 dx/si joints. Otherwise you will need 88-91 dx/si hubs and axles. An ACT clutch for 30 bucks seems a little shady. I would inspect it to see what kind of condition it is in before you buy.

don't mean to steal the thread, but what other manuals can you put in your car, like newer ones? and what all needs to change?

As i did some research here on the site, it seems as if i got a STD, not a DX. Its a 91 DPI 4spd HB, In other words a CX or w.e
but neways it being a STD makes it all better in the long run cause my intentions for this car is to be strickly street/track. I weighed it the otherday and it was 1940pds with qt tank of gas. And my buddies 89 Rex was 60pds more heavier, he has his full interior and i took out my rear seats. Pretty light car Neways enough blabbin, If i install this 5spd SI tranny, all I have to do is install new cv joints? |

Now that its an STD, you will need new hubs. If I were you i'd just get new axles (Si or DX) but if you want you can just swap the inner joints to 88-91 dx/si jointsm like 91 zc said.

Luckily for me theres a junkyard close by that has Civi and CRX SI's with hubs and axles. I hate to buy used stuff like drivetrain parts but yea well moneys tight up in this no economy town. Ill keep yall updated on this swap and the aftermath.
Ill keep checking back to se eif any1 has any tips for the swap take it ez Dustin |

If you know its in good comdition (no grinds, shifts smooth) then yea thats a good deal. I bought mine for $130 and was told it shifts good, it ended up having many internal problems which ended up costing me $450 to fix. I went ahead and did it because I know for a fact that its reliable now.
