Question Greetings! How to identify the car is stolen?

Hi,

I'm new here, but I have read most of threads in here. I hope I can afford a GTR someday. At least I start saving money now.

But after reading the threads, there is question bothering me. So I decide to ask my question here and to get some advice.
My question is how I can idetify that a person or a dealer try to sell a stolen GTR to me. I mean whether I can go to some organization or department to check with engine code(VIN) and body code if I have those from that person or dealer? In Japan is there any company that provides car record as CARFAX?

I hope someone can help my question. Thanks

problem is that thieves change the vin and all the indentification marks...only an expert can take a look at the id inscriptions and see if they have been altered

Neutrino, Thanks so much for the reply. Can I check engine code and body number with Nissan to see whether the factory has ever builded that car? Every car has unique Engine code and Body code as its ID# right? And Nissan must have those in its database. If Nissan verify that they don't have those numbers thieves made up, it is questionable. Well back to my question; GTRs come from JP and most are used. So if there is some company like CARFAX, we also can see whether there is any record from the car. I don't know . Above are just my thought. I still hope someone can discuss this question or have other answer. Thanks again for the reply, Neutrino

A lot depends on the country you live in also. As an example if you live in the US and are looking to purchase on, going through MotoRex or RBmotoring is a safe bet!

The same for New Zealand and Australia. Here in NZ and I would imagine in OZ cars can not legally enter the country without Degreg papers from the country of purchase, such as Japan. Even though those can be forged odds are the business that is doing the dodgy deal will get caught.
Each skylines has a unique chassis number and also the letter is unique to that particular model. Such as BNR for a GTR, HRC for GTS, GTS4, GTS-t in the R32 range. Remember though may cars are modified in Japan also with kits, and bits from a GTR onto other chassis, so what may appear to be a stolen car and done up to hide it, may be infact a car someone has doen up.

as razor said going trough a reputable dealer is usually a safe bet.......

but anyway if you decide to get this car on your own yes you can check to see if the engine id and the other id numbers have been reported stolen.....

unfortunatelly some profesional thieves will change those numbers to a new one that will show up as good....in this case only an expert can indentify a tampering....basically you would have to get a cop from the car theft division to take a look at the car or maybe there are some private experts you can hire to come and take a look too.....

so bottom line if the care has been stolen by amateurs the id check will show taht it was stolen....if it has been stolen by pros the id check will come up clean.....

Thanks Razor and Neutrino for the reply. Yeah, the reputable dealers will always be the first choice. I just assume if I find a affordable price from someone (of course, I will go through MotoRex for legalization). As you said only checking those numbers may not be dependable, but where should I go to check with those numbers if I want to give a try?

btw, here are some pics I found. This dealer in Taiwan is selling R32 for US$10k, R33 for US$16k (already converted to LHR), and R34 for US$22k approximately. Converted LHR fee is 4.3k. Well, I'm not sure about this since used R34 would still go for US$40 approximately in Japan. Do those look like stolen cars to you or savlage vechicles rebuilded?
one of R33
another R33
Converting to LHR Project(R33)
Fished LHR

Anyway, I just try to figure out the stolen car issue, and not to flam anyone. MotoRex or RBmotoring is still the first choice in US
