worn balljoint
a mechanic told me that my upper balljoint was shot... i just want to be sure before i spend the big money.. how can i check it myself? by shaking at the tire right?
oh and can a worn balljoint create a creaking noise? thanks in advance

Well if the ball joint boot is broken it's an almost automatic replacement of the joint. But pushing and pulling on the top of the tire with the tires on the ground should give you an idea of what you've got. BTY, worn joints cause all kinds of noise. Good luck.
