Looking for my first car.... a VW

Hey everyone,

This is my first time on the forum, so I've got a couple of questions if anyone would like to help me out....

First of all, I'm 16, and looking to buy my first car soon. I've looked around at things, and I'm quite sure that I want a Volkswagen, because it is a well established fact that VW's are well built cars that last a long time, and people I know have only told me good things about them. Being that I am a teenager with limited income, and that this will be my first car, I'm looking for something around the $1000- sub $1500 range. Age and mileage aren't a huge concern, as long as they are somewhat reasonable... basically I want something that I can depend on to get me where I want to go.... So... any suggestions from VW owners/fans out there... what years/models should I look into? Do VW's from these possible years have any common problems that I should be aware of...? Please help me....

Also... I was looking through a book of classifieds, and in the car section, I spotted 2 ads for Jetta Diesels, an 89 and a 91, that were advertised as getting 48 and 50 mpg, respectively. The 91 model was $1350 (needed new tires), and the 89 needed exhaust work.... what's good and bad about these cars, especially concerning the diesel aspect?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

i`ll suggest you a vw beetween 85 and 92,, golf or jetta ...
cheap and easy to focus on the real problem..
watch for oil leaking and rust...specialy the floor
