Unhappy Brakes/Rotors & Starting Problem

I own a 2000 Grand Am GT. I have two questions for anyone.

I have been researching a front brake/rotor design problem with the Grand Am and have had no luck. I have had pulsating and grinding noises for about 12K miles. I have 58K on my car right now. Had brakes replaced, still happening.

Anybody have any ideas of what it may be?

Also, I have been having starting problems for about 8K miles. My Grand Am will start fine in the morning, but once it warms up everytime I try to start it throughout the day, it will crank but not turn over. If I give it gas it starts. Today I just replaced the fuel filter and that wasn't it. I am going to replace the fuel regulator.

Anybody have any ideas about this one too???

Please e-mail me ([email protected])with any suggestions....

You are not alone with your brake problems. GM built the grand Am under tight brake tolerances, any change will cause a pulsation. GM has a fix on this that requires you to go to the dealer. What needs to be done is the rotor run out measured and a shim installed. Everytime you rotate tires or remove one the tires need to be torques tp spec in a star pattern, anything but this will cause the pulsation to come back.

The grinding noise is a combination or rust build up the brake pads. GM rotors rust real easy. I would sugest aftermarket rotors.

As for your hot restart problem it is a good idea to replace the fuel reg. But if the problem is still there take it the dealer.
