Exclamation Low end power please.....

Friday afternoon before a night at the 1/8 mile track A friend and I made a few adjustments on my '97 Eagle Talon ESi. Thinking replacing my regular cat with test-pipe, paired up with my custom tubing, intake, and custom muffler, would give me some better low end power(more air in more air out).I even reset the computer so it could adjust. My talon has always had a little trouble on the launch, but last night i didn't have hardly any low end (horrible launch), but my high end was AWSOME. I want to keep the high end, but get that awsome launch I need to break 9.00. Any sugjestions on moddifications?

Of course we know what to do. I have no problem making power myself....

The only way to shift your ower band effectively is by changing cam timing. Not worth it on an NT IMO. Low end power wont help your times anyway. High end torque is what make for a fast ET. Its about taking advantage of gearing (torque mulitplication). So you have it backwards. Worry about low end on the street. Work on your high end. More in more out as you say, and the higher the rpm the better.

Smile workin hard for power

Hey, i have a 96 Talon Esi and was wondering how your getting the power out of yours. Ive replaced the exhaust and intake and even bored the throttle, but she still chokes on some take offs. Aswell as occasional rouch idle and wanting to stall. Will larger injectors work to correct this prob?

Re: Low end power please.....

97ESi;
What 95 GSXracer says pretty much hits it on the head. In order to get more horse power out of your motor you need to put more air through it. You've done that with your exhaust and modifications to your intake. That increase in power will be felt at high rpms, and usually always cuts low end torque to some degree. Turbo charging sort of works around that problem by forcing more air through your engine, still more noticably at higher rpms, but usually with very little impact on low end torque. Again, as 95 GSXracer put it, by opening up your intake and removing exhaust restrictions, or by altering your cam timing, using a higher lift or duration cam, etc., you shift the power band of your engine into a higher RPM range. You just need to keep that engine within that range to get your best quarter mile or 1/8 mile times.
