For Those Who Have Winches

I am considering primarily the Warn XD9000(i) and have a couple of questions. Those of you who use that winch, where did you wind up buying it and why? I have been reviewing prices and have seen anywhere from $700 on up to slightly over a grand. Now I can tell you for a fact that I AM NOT paying a grand plus for the winch. So far, Ewinches.com and TOR (Tennessee Off Road) have the best prices I have seen. TOR is slightly more than Ewinches.com, but since I have done business with them and know they are reliable, odds are I will pay the few bucks extra for known customer service. What I would like to know is how much folks paid and who they bought them from and how the service at that particular organization was. Buying it locally is out of the question since the local shops want a grand plus.

Gordon, i am also ready to finally add my winch so if you find a good price online or elsewhere for a 9000lb+ warn winch let me know o.k.?
also have you checked into whether or not the new thermometric warn winch will fit our Calmini bumbers, by the way congrats for the excellent choice you've waited long enough my friend.
i'll send you a email with my new phone number, our number was getting called to much for people wanting wal-mart, you know that they are just some small store so nobody ever calls there.

Us PNWX guys seem to buy our winches from Central4wd.com as they're a good shop. They have what you're looking for with free shipping at $784

Schlud,

Thanks, I will check them out. 4 Wheel Parts has them for about the same price but because I live in Florida, I have to pay sales tax, which puts it in the $800 price range. The shipping thing will be the deal maker though. If I can get it for that sans shipping, it is an instant sale.

SouthernX,

Here is the photo from the CalMini website:

Notice the winch on the front. Yes it will definitely fit. It would be an issue if we were using the ARB or TJM bumper, but with the CalMini it is not. That is actually one of the reasons I chose their bumper over the others.

Yeah, now that Calmini has the light guards it doesn't look so much like a toilet paper roller.

If you get the same deal, please go with Central 4wd. They've been a really good shop for Xterra owners, and won't diss anyone that doesn't have a Jeep with 33's like 4wheelParts does up here.

I paid about $800 for my XD9000i about 1.5 years ago from Automotive Accessories Connection.

Today, it looks like XD9000i is about $770 (free shipping).

Schlud,

I just ordered my winch from Central 4WD and used Xterra 4X4 as my referral. I assume you have no problem with that. Hopefully it will get here in time for Uwharrie so I can pay it out, rewind it and test it before I get there.

Thanks Gordon. Winches good. Save much sheet metal. Help climb. Go farther.

Probably, but now that much of our club has winches I feel much better. Most of my winching situations have saved my ass and had nothing to do with needing lockers. I've still got my eye on those 4:1 Calmini gears.

Being able to pull your truck in any direction to maneuver around a tree, or along a slope is a great security blanket to have. But then we have different terrain here.

Re: For Those Who Have Winches

I see most Xterra owners with Warn's, but some go with the slower, cheaper, possibly less reliable MM. But my personal experience is only with the Warn.

Well I eventually went with the Warn 9.5ti..and love it. Have used it several times and find the line speed good and the power as well. Only suggestion is to go with a synthetic winch line down the road.
